42: Life, the Universe and Everything
December 7, 2019
What is House Conspiracy? Is it a house? A community? A conspiracy? Yes, yes, and yes. But it's also a space in the universe where art happens - so much art that it can't all be shown in one space. 42 is a multisite exhibition that will take over the neighbourhood to celebrate the artists, creatives, and the community that keeps this house as a home for artists and our art loving friends.
In Douglas Adam's novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it takes supercomputer Deep Thought 7.5 million years to arrive at '42' - the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Well, 42 makes perfect sense to us and the many artists who have resided and explored their artistic practice within the humble walls of the modest queenslander that is progressively becoming dwarfed by surrounding concrete and gentrification.
42 celebrates the last 18 months of House Conspiracy's creative cycles. It showcases art from our Alumni Artists, current Artist in Residence, Erin Green, and photographic prints developed in our onsite darkroom by our film community. 42 also features open studios from the current artists, offering the opportunity to explore the world of work-in-progress art.
The exhibition takes place at 42 Mollison Street (House Conspiracy) which continues and concludes atVacant Assembly with live performances by Ashley Peel, Justine Keim and Unregistered Master Builder.
At Vacant Assembly we will host an art auction to raise funds for our inaugural Rural Artist in Residence Exchange, commencing in 2020. This After Dark event will feature the launch of a teaser of a poetic documentary crafted by resident film group, Brisbane Film Ensemble, exploring what the f*ck House Conspiracy is, and an interdisciplinary performance piece Ceremony by a collection of performance art, theatre, dance, and adult entertainment artists.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: ERIN GREEN
Erin Green is a visual artist based between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. She is interested in exploring our relationships to home in both place and body. Erin recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary drawing at QCA. Shifting between multiple mediums, Erin contrasts traditional drawing materials and techniques with digital distortion and manipulation.
Erin will be showcased in our upcoming alumni exhibition “42: life, the universe and everything.” Erin’s work will also be printed on our brand new merchandise which will be up for grabs on the night of the event.

Ceremony can consolidate identity or hide it, but either way it insinuates a form of union with self and other. This interdisciplinary collaborative performance - that is somewhat organic and somewhat contrived - will likely generate equal parts of discomfort and histeria for the performers and the audience.
